After a sold out Fallen Angels Club show at the CCA last December, Sam Baker makes a welcome return to Glasgow.
Legendary BBC presenter Bob Harris told listeners to his big-audience Radio 2 show that Sam Baker’s Pretty World was “magnificent – one of the GREAT albums of the year”, shelves at some of the major CD website operations were cleaned out overnight.
After a few more plays, Bob concluded the track, Broken Fingers was a contender for Song of The Year and issued an invitation to Sam to come into his London studio for ‘live’ session.
Maverick magazine called the album “fantastic”, Americana UK gave it eight stars out of a possible ten and suddenly everyone wanted to see the man perform live.
Fans of Townes Van Zandt, John Prine and Guy Clark form an orderly line.

"Eaglesmith delivers passion like few singers since Woody Guthrie," New York Press.
A Fred Eaglesmith show is songs about small town America, it's about lost loves and lives, shattered illusions and dead ends. Fred Eaglesmith, like Charles Bukowski, has lived this life of despair and he knows how to tell his story.
Eaglesmith's songs have been covered by a steadily growing list of artists: Toby Keith, The Cowboy Junkies, Chris Knight, Dar Williams, Kasey Chambers, among others. Film director Martin Scorsese has used his songs, as have others including James Caan in his movie Viva Los Nowhere.
His show features a mix of passionate, funny and moving music, ridiculously funny comedy, honest tears and poignant observations all at once. Eaglesmith's commentary on affairs -- current ones as well as those of the heart -- is hilarious, uproarious, and provocative. Not to be missed!
