PAUL
MORRIS Writer/Director
Born
4th of September 1958, in Uddingston, Scotland (on the same day there was a
volcanic eruption on the moon). Education:
7 O’ Levels: English, French, History, Greek, Latin, Arithmetic and
Statistics. Paul studied History, Politics, French Studies and Fine Art at Glasgow University. He was Vice President (in absentia) of the Literary Society (the renowned poet Edwin Morgan was President). He produced an independent poetry and short story magazine Written In Ink and had his early work published extensively. Since then Paul has worked in a variety of media. He began in local newspapers, as advertising feature writer. For Holmes MacDougal educational publishers, he edited the English series for West Africa. He then moved to Radio Clyde (the most successful independent radio station in Europe) and spent four years writing and producing radio commercials for a rich variety of clients. During that time, three of Paul’s plays were produced on the Scottish stages: Three Wee Kings at the Mitchell Theatre, Glasgow… an original environmental story for children Steph, Crabs and Wilsy at the King’s Theatre, Glasgow… and Transformer (a reworking of Kafka’s Metamorphosis set in a Glasgow flat) at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Paul
went freelance to produce and direct pop promos and corporate films. He moved
to London and directed short drama films, commercials and corporate films. His clients
included Rank Xerox, TSB bank, The Daily Star, Amec and
the Joan Collin’s Fan Club. Later, his first screenplay was commissioned. Since then Paul has written or co-written many screenplays, including… co-writer Hotel Shanghai : for German television. 2001 original screenplay Cannibal Vacation: Media Programme Individual Writer’s Award. Siamese Cop, his first comic feature as director and co-writer. Co-writer animated feature Duck Ugly (Terraglyph Productions, Ireland/ (Couac, petit vilain canard, Millimages, France), in competition at Anima 2005, Brussels and Hungarian Animation festival. Splitting Atoms (Partiendo Atomos) was completed in Argentina, directed by John Dickinson. Screened at the Mar del Plata Film festival. Currently
Paul lives in Brussels, writing and translating, French-English, He also
